Venghai belongs to the newly developed tamil genre called HARI. Its an out and out Hari entertainer. It has a racy plot, non-stop punch throwing speedy hero, spectacular unrealistic stunts, stereotype sentiments, half sareed heroine, and last but not the least, Aruvaal. You cant stop relating most of the scenes with those of his previous movies. But it doesn't stop you from being entertained. Dhanush doesn't look so good when he twists and turns and throws men who are ten times bigger than him. It worked for Surya. But Hari forgot he is handling the lean and clean Dhanush. But who cares? Its a movie! Dhanush delivers his dialogs with ease, emotes well and scores well. As like any of Hari's previous movies, the heroine, here tamanna, does a heavy role. She does it with ease. But at times she looks like a white patch on a dark skin. She doesnt fit.
Initially the posters carrying Prakashraj with his big Mush and villainous looks really irritated me. But who could have done such a comical, stupendous villain better than him? Rajkiran is asusual the mass leader Dad. Has carried a role very similar to that of his in Sandakozhi. Here he does some decision makings, son-saving plans, etc, etc. Songs are bad. The introduction number started well but missed track in the middle and turned out an irritation to the ears. The other songs could have been better.
Kanja Karuppu's comedy scenes try very hard to provoke laughter. But unfortunately fails. Hari questions women quite often about the dress they wear and culture kinda stuff. He did it in Tamizh, Aaru, singam and does it in venghai too. But why does he permit cruel adult comedies and nasty comments in his movies? And why does he allow women skin shows? Only he does know the answer!
We saw Aaru. It resembled Velu! So what? It worked. We made Singam a blockbuster. It had a plot similar to that of Saami's. So what? It worked big time. Now it is Venghai down the row. And it is like every other movie of Hari's. So what? You wont be disappointed! It will work!! Hari is safe now, though there are moments where there is an obvious need for new scenes and thoughts. But if he sticks to the same genre for some more he will soon have a big bomb in the BO!
